Vote now for ugliest and best looking gold bullion

1 Attachment(s)
My vote for the ugliest gold bullion came down to those 90% American Eagles.
They are creamy colored due to their high content of lead. :D

And the best looking gold bullion on the planet today...
My vote goes to the .99999 2007 Maples! Yea! :applause_

Dutch ducat!?! In my entry above I mistakenly accused the Belgians of having minted the abomination below (it was the "Belgii" that fooled me) but it actually is the Dutch. This is not a pretty coin.

I've noticed that the Austrian Ducats are getting really popular here at GIM. Good, perhaps we should try to corner the market.

I agree, and I really wish that they would remove her from the Maple soon.

Prettiest: (standing Britannia) gold Britannia.

Ugliest: Buffalo, not only the design, but the absolute lack of originality.
If I wanted to see that design, I'd buy some old buffalo nickels. Something a little more creative would have been nice.

My other favorites: GAE, Mexican Libertad, 4 Ducat, 5-9's Maple.

Other forgetables (for me): Krug, Panda, Kangaroo.

WTF? There is no lead in an American Eagle. It is gold, copper and silver. :confused_ma:

Yes, only the ones minted in China have the lead problem. :sarc:

Re: Vote now for ugliest and best looking gold bullion

When it comes to gold, I don't think there are any ugly coins. Ugly pile of gold? I don't think so.

Top: Lunars and Britannias

Ugly: I've never seen an ugly gold coin

To show how difficult this is, below is a picture that has been posted here a number of times. Nobody has nominated a Maple as the prettiest but it is a stunning coin. I could post equally as nice shots of eagles or maples or lunars or pandas or any of a bunch of other coins. Several people have mentioned Krugs as "ugly". Believe me, hold a pile of Krugs in your hand and ugly will not come to mind.

Ugly and gold are simply contradictory terms.

prettiest: Philharmonics since both sides are neat and it's 24k. I personally really love the Buffs, although I can appreciate Jekyll's gripe concerning the U.S. Mint's lack of originality. That serene, confident Indian is so interesting looking to me, and the coin is so Americana with the addition of the buffalo.

ugliest: I have to agree with that double chinned ugly guy coin that naccarato nominated. Yikes! :D Kinda off topic, but I have two rolls of early seventies silver coins called Mundineros and Universaros. I hated these coins from the moment I laid eyes on them, although I do still have them. They're the first to go should a spike in silver occur.

Both sides taken in account and considering availability,
the Mexican 50 Peso in 1st place with the double eagle in a close second.

One sided coin vote goes to the 5/9 maple with the american eagle in second

I like a lot of Singapore's designs even Laos has nice designs too.

Kugerrand stands alone as best ugly!

Its going to take some magic with the lens to make a Krugerrand look attractive TomD.
I am pretty sure if anyone can do it, it's you.:D
My favourite is the Mexican 50 peso.
Maples, Turkish kurush and French Roosters deserves to be nominated as well.

I fancy the Singapore Singold Tigers.
Austrian Philharmonikers are also very intricate and sweet looking.

No gold coin is ugly, some are just nicer looking than others.

I must be the only guy to really like the Buffalo. I like it much more than the Liberty. It just has more character to me.

Krugs are not ugly either. They don't have as much art as some of the other coins, but truth be told they are the closest thing the international community has to gold money.

The asian coins are the most attractive, but the designs change so often...it is just hard to keep up with. I have always liked the Pandas as well.
